Joseph Bates Noble

Welcome to the
Joseph Bates Noble Scholars Program


Joseph Bates Noble (born 1810, died 1900) was a prominent leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons), and played a key role in the Nauvoo era of the church.  He was also a friend, confidant, and bodyguard of Joseph Smith, the founder of the church.

The Joseph Bates Scholars Program is devoted to helping high-achieving descendants of Joseph Bates Noble with their educational pursuits at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.  We currently offer the following scholarships to new incoming freshman at BYU:

  • $2000 per year for 4 years
  • $1000 for one year
  • $500 for one year

Applicants must be a direct descendant of Joseph Bates Noble, have exceptional High School academic credentials, and be a new freshman enrolling full-time at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Scholarships are limited and are awarded in our sole discretion. Scholarships may be deferred while the recipient serves an LDS mission.
